Chiromancy – palm divination
Chiromancy – palm divination
Chiromancy is, in other words, the art of reading information from the palm of a person’s hand regarding his character and predisposition. The oldest surviving records dealing with it date back five thousand years ago, in what is now China, India and the Middle East in general. The Chinese took this area quite seriously, treating palm lines as a kind of bodily document for interpretation. It is also highly likely that the Indians tried to study the secrets of human characters on its basis. It is also possible that they tried to find out the causes of possible illnesses. The Babylonians and ancient Egyptians tried to predict future events from the arrangement of lines on the inside of the palm. They made these conclusions by noting the similarity of the lines to the arrangement of stars on the celestial vault. From there – that is, from astrology – also came the names of the various line arrangements, which have persisted to this day.
Today, the art of human palm reading is not recognized in the scientific world. This makes it all the more surprising that almost until the end of the 18th century it was a widely respected and widely spread branch of knowledge. It was treated on a par with other areas of science and taught as a subject at many universities.
In chiromancy, a division was adopted according to which the left hand is a carrier of information that we have taken over as part of our genetic inheritance from nearer and farther ancestors. It is supposed to indicate things that are somehow already established, determined, over which one has no direct influence. According to some, from the palm it is possible to deduce what talents a person has, as well as his approximate intelligence quotient, and even how many people he will give life to in the future. In contrast, the right palm is said to show our life in its active form, that is, how we influence it. It can somehow relate to our choices, how we live. With certainty, it shows our every failing against a healthy and balanced way of life. A skilled palm reader’s eye can deduce a developing disease in someone’s body before it gives concrete physical symptoms.
Lifeline
Is probably the best known and recognized of all palm lines. For obvious reasons, it arouses the most interest. This line is supposed to indicate what condition we are in physically. Contrary to what first comes to mind, it does not predict actual life expectancy, and it is not at all about the actual size of this line on our hand. Instead, we can read from it the degree of intensity of our existence, which, as we know, leaves traces on our body. A dashed lifeline means that there were many changes in one’s life, to which one had to adapt. A short and wide lifeline, on the other hand, would indicate a very dynamic existence, unfortunately, plagued by illnesses every now and then.
Head line
It can begin in the same place as the lifeline. The head line, as its term indicates, indicates a person’s intellectual sphere. It can also inform about inventiveness, a tendency to think abstractly or how energetic and pivotal a person is in getting things done.
Heart line
It is responsible for emotions, and its shape and course are said to show the permanence and intensity of feelings. A very long heart line denotes the likelihood of tendencies to hypersensitivity and jealousy. A straight alignment of the heart line would be said to indicate a tendency to close in on oneself.
